Reading this just made me so excited to move to Barcelona too! (Although I still haven’t fully committed to it yet.) Congratulations. 💛 Also, no AC in your place? A challenge in this heat!
Love this post, having followed your story for a while here... the fact that as soon as you stopped chasing it all fell into place, and we can watch it with you in 3D ... is so beautiful. I feel your relief for you. I am happy for you.
Reading this brought me back to 2010, when I spent a beautiful year in Barcelona. It was also a tough time economically, so unfortunately, when my research funding ended, I couldn’t find a job there.
I’ve lived in many cities across Europe, and Barcelona remains my favorite. I still dream of going back someday.
This city has it all: warm and welcoming people, great weather, the sea, mountains not too far away, rich culture, and amazing food!
Russell, I read your post on passport privilege and it really spoke to me. Then I read this one about Barcelona and honestly, it speaks to me loudly. I was born in Argentina, a granddaughter of immigrants. In the nineties, I moved to London for love and completely fell for the city. I enjoyed every single minute there. Sadly, I had to return to Buenos Aires because of a family tragedy.
In 2022, tired of Argentina’s ongoing crisis, I made the decision to quit my job and move to Paris, where my daughter was studying. Then, just last year, I moved to Barcelona. I think we might even be neighbours. The city is beautiful, but somehow there is no real connection between us. I am trying my best. I really want to love it here, but something feels missing.
I am a little obsessed with the connection between cities and people, so reading how much you love Barcelona is very interesting to me. Even with all my efforts, I cannot seem to find that same feeling.
I really love London as well, it's one of the best cities in the world... if only it weren't so expensive! (And not being in the EU anymore is too bad).
I just read your Side B piece - it seems like you have more to say!

Working on the AC :)
You and brian wiesman are going to Barcelona pull everyone
Barcelona doesn't need us for that :)
Beautiful, as always RMS!
Thanks Matt 🙏

Enjoy it fully — it’s a special place.
Great news! Glad to hear you’re home 🧡
Vibing. And 👋🏼 from a temporary nest in Vienna!
Barcelona - beautiful city. Visited it last summer. Loved the food, the vibe , people and the amazing architecture.
Yes! Very excited for more Barcelona updates in the future. And congratulations on the building permits, timing is everything as they say!
I'm so glad you found your home. It is nice to feel settled.
Enjoy!
